Paralympics: Lithuania claims first gold medal

Lithuanian athlete Mindaugas Bilius wins another medal for Lithuania at Rio de Janeiro Paralympics

At Men’s Shot Put (F37) 34-year-old Lithuanian athlete did 16 meters 80 centimetres at the finals, reaching a new European record and grabbing the gold medal.

This has been the first Lithuanian gold medal in 12 years. The last time Lithuania won gold at Paralympics was back in 2004 in Athens, by Aldona Grigaliūnienė in Shot Put event.

Mindaugas Bilius took Lithuania by a pleasant surprise the very first day in Rio Paralympics, when he came out the second in the Men’s Discus Throw (F37) event (53.60 meters). Mindaugas achieved his personal record and became a vice-champion in the Games.
