Opole is preparing for a weekend built around regional food, practical cooking and the social side of the table. The city’s 17th Festival of Opole Flavours will take place from Friday 28 August to Sunday 30 August 2026 at Plac Kopernika, bringing together local producers, food trucks, craft-food sellers, invited cooks and family activities.
The festival is a forthcoming event rather than a retrospective food fair: the city published its detailed programme on 14 August, with the opening scheduled for 18:00 on Friday. The announcement presents the gathering as a combination of market, tasting route, workshop space and open-air entertainment, with regional tradition providing the central theme.
A city-centre food market with a regional focus
Across the three days, visitors will be able to browse stalls selling regional dishes, handmade products and food prepared on site. The programme also includes craft beer and food trucks, giving the event a broader contemporary street-food element alongside traditional flavours.
The format reflects the way many Polish food festivals now connect producers directly with the public. The city’s earlier call for exhibitors described the festival as a platform for regional and artisanal food businesses, with free commercial stalls offered to selected participants. The emphasis was placed on quality, variety and the presentation of distinctive local products.
For visitors, that means the event is designed not only for eating but also for discovery: sampling, talking with producers and seeing how selected dishes and sweets are made. The main market will run during the afternoon on each festival day, with the programme extending into the evening through concerts.
Live cooking moves from traditional flavours to family workshops
Friday’s opening programme combines live cooking with a hands-on confectionery workshop. Karol Kus, associated with the “Masz to w lesie” project, is scheduled to present cooking inspired by outdoor preparation and regional ingredients. Later, the creator known as Pani Karmelarz will lead workshops showing how caramel sweets are made, with participants able to taste the results.
Saturday will focus on Silesian culinary traditions. Remigiusz Rączka, a chef and television presenter known for programmes centred on Silesian cooking, will prepare dishes inspired by recipes and products associated with the region. His appearance gives the festival a clear educational dimension: familiar dishes become a way to explain local food heritage and the habits that shaped it.
Sunday’s programme continues the theme of everyday cooking and regional ingredients. The creators known as Pan Babcia and Jakub Kuroń are scheduled to cook on stage, while a “Green Forest Flavours Town” will present dishes using fish and game as part of a broader countryside-inspired food offer. The city says that trout dishes will be prepared by the agrotourism business Nad Stawami.
Activities for children and an evening programme
Food education is also aimed at younger visitors. Children’s culinary workshops are planned for both Saturday and Sunday, alongside the Wawel Truck mobile attraction on Friday. The truck will offer interactive games and confectionery-themed activities, giving families an additional reason to spend time at the festival beyond the food stalls.
The music programme is intended to keep the market active after the main daytime cooking sessions. Emerging performers will appear during the Craft Music City competition, with concerts scheduled on Friday, Saturday and Sunday and the competition’s final planned for Sunday evening.
That combination of food, workshops and music positions the festival as a public-space event rather than a specialist trade fair. It is accessible to residents looking for a relaxed weekend activity, while also offering visitors a compact introduction to Opole’s regional food culture.
