The Latvian Olympic Committee (LOC) has been marked by its 95th anniversary by presenting the history of sports and the history of the country, reported insidethegames

“The LOC was established in 1922 and allowed by the Latvian Athletes to participate in the Olympics,” said LOC President Aldons Vrubļevskis.

“LOC 95 years is the basis for the future work and success of the Olympic Movement.

“It has been, and will, the LOC operations and the Latvian sports system, strengthening the unity and development of the future generations, sport and Latvia.”

The National Library of Latvia, based in the capital of Riga, was re-developed in 2014 and was designed by architect Gunnar Birkerts.

In January the LOC completed the first two volumes of the Olympic Encyclopedia.

Expected to total 12 volumes in all, the Olympic Encyclopedia is set to contain 120 years worth of information on the Olympic world for future generations.

It is the result of more than 50 years of research by Genadijs Macirevs.
