Lidl Latvija and the construction company Merks announced the completion of the construction works and commissioning of Lidl’s logistics center at Dzelzavas street 131, Dreilini, Riga. The newly built 51 000 sq. meters large facility will serve future Lidl stores in both Latvia and Estonia. The logistics center also houses the national headquarter office for Lidl Latvia.

The official opening ceremony of the logistics center will take place later. Now, after commissioning the facility, work is being carried out to enable center’s regular operations.

Jakob Josefsson, CEO of Lidl Latvia and Lidl Eesti informs that the logistics center in Dreilini will be providing operations for Latvia and Estonia: “The construction works are completed and the next step is modern equipment’s installation, which will help us to maintain the highest quality of all the incoming goods and ensure their timely delivery to Lidl stores.”

Andris Bišmeistars, Director of construction and Board member of Merks says: “We are honored to cooperate with Lidl and to build the logistics center, which is one of the most modern in the Baltics. The warehouse areas we built include advanced cooling systems, as well as sustainable office space with a green terrace. We are glad that Riga now has one more well-maintained territory”.

“Lidl’s logistics center on Dzelzavas street is a good example for buildings of this type, as it shows company’s care for the daily well-being of its employees. Also, the planted greenery around the building is a positive addition to the look of the whole area,” says Gunita Kalīte, Deputy Head of Architecture’s Division’s Architect’s department of Riga City Construction Board.

It is planned, that Lidl Latvija logistics center will create over 150 new and well-paid jobs in Latvia. “This will be in addition to the hundreds of Lidl employees who already are working in Riga,” adds Jakob Josefsson, strongly believing in a positive impact of this project on local economy. With its operations, the newly built logistics center will also provide new cooperation opportunities for the local logistics and transportation companies.

Costing EUR 55 million, the Lidl logistics center at Dzelzavas street 131, Dreilini, Riga, is the single largest Lidl investment in Latvia, and the major milestone towards Lidl’s market entry into Latvia’s and Estonia’s retail markets. Construction works of Lidl logistics center in Dreilini started in 2018.
