New light-vehicle registrations in the Baltic States shrank by almost 2% in the III quarter of 2024

Analysis of fully-processed registrations’ data performed by AV Automotive Research / AutoTyrimai, based on source data obtained from Regitra (Lithuania), CSDD (Latvia) and Transpordiamet (Estonia), reveals that new light-vehicle (M1&N1) registrations in the Baltic States decreased by 1.8% to 19ʼ296 units in the III quarter 2024.

While Lithuania recorded 3.5% increase in registrations (to 7ʼ953 units), Latvia shrank by 11.5% (to 4ʼ820 units), and Estonia grew just by 0.2% (to 6ʼ523 units). As for country share, Lithuania accounted for 41.2% of the total, while Latvia and Estonia respectively had 25.0% and 33.8% shares.

There were 17ʼ349 passenger cars (+2.6%) and 1ʼ947 light commercial vehicles (-28.7%) registered in the Baltic States in the III quarter 2024. The best performing makes (brands) were Toyota (2ʼ993 units), Skoda (2ʼ868), Volkswagen (1ʼ929), Peugeot (1ʼ267) and Kia (1ʼ178). The most popular models were Skoda Kodiaq (774 units), Volkswagen Tiguan (723), Kia Sportage (679), Toyota RAV4 (670), and Skoda Octavia (661).

Some country-specific details regarding III quarter of 2024 can be found in the table.

New light-vehicle registrations in the Baltic States decreased by 5.1% to 58ʼ181 units in the first 9 months of 2024. Lithuania grew by 1.8% to 24ʼ374 units; while Latvia was down by 10.3% to 15ʼ024 units, and Estonia – by 8.8% to 18ʼ783 units.

The research is based on the common European-wide methodology, which considers a vehicle as being new one only when its first-overall and first-in-country registration dates are exactly the same. It counts so-called brutto volume paying no regard to any kind of short-term registrations and de-registrations which may follow-up at any time, and these are the subjects of another dedicated research.
