A modern, new green recreational space was opened two year ago in Antakalnis, the oldest district in Vilnius: a park of multifunctional works of art.
Lithuanian sculptors recognised in the world of art created the benches–sculptures mounted in the park. The park is located near the largest public path in Antakalnis, right next to V. Žalakevičius street.
Famous artists were gathered to work on the project by “MG Valda” real estate company in cooperation with Vilnius city municipality, while chief architect of ”Antakalnio terasos” Algirdas Kaušpėdas helped to select the designs of the projects adapted to the park.
This project is a practical example when the RE developer in cooperation with a city municipality creates valuable space for citizens, which embellishes and supplements the city.
The location for the park was selected taking people’s flows and their needs into consideration: the intention was to create space for active leisure and quiet relaxation surrounded by greenery.
The sculptures of the park were selected from over 20 unique offers of sculptors.
The whole process of the realisation of the bench-sculpture park idea was quite constructive: sculptors’ community offered a great variety of designs, therefore the list of choices was really vast.
The purpose was to create an opportunity for Vilnius residents to get to know more sculptors, therefore different authors were chosen.
The Antakalnis park of benches–sculptures is a new public space created for Antakalnis community and all Vilnius residents, which is intended for both active leisure and quiet relaxation in artistic surroundings.
The park of benches–sculptures receiving growing number of visitors every day.
