Vilnius: Užupis is One of the Hippest Neighbourhoods in Europe

Travel portal Travel Supermarket partnered with travel bloggers published recommendations on the European neighbourhoods which will become tourism hotspots in 2017. The Bohemian Užupis district is 11th on the list.

The neighbourhoods were assessed according to three criteria: culture, creativity, and value of the immovable property.

Independent coffee shops, vintage fashion stores, independent bike shops, co-working spaces and art galleries/studios, lofts and other interesting places had to be present in these neighbourhoods.

Penalty points were given to these areas that had high numbers of big chain brands such as Starbucks, Costa, etc.

“Uzupis is largely located in Vilnius’ old town, a UNESCO World Heritage site, meaning the neighbourhood is brimming with interesting architecture and history. It is a self-proclaimed republic, and celebrates its annual Independence Day on April 1. It has its own president, a small army, four flags, and even its own constitution”, state the recommendations of Travel Supermarket.
