The number of tourists arriving to Estonia continues to increase

According to Statistics Estonia, 235,300 tourists used the services of accommodation establishments in September 2015, which was 1% more than in September 2014. The number of both foreign and domestic tourists increased

In September, 157,500 foreign tourists stayed in accommodation establishments – 1% more than in September 2014. 40% of the foreign tourists arrived from Finland, 8% from Germany, 7% from Russia and 6% from Latvia.

More tourists from Latvia and Germany stayed in accommodation establishments than in September of the previous year.

The number of tourists arriving from Russia, however, has decreased in every month of 2015.

The number of tourists arriving from Asian countries continues to increase – in September, there were 32% more tourists arriving from Asian countries than in the same month a year ago. 73% of the foreign tourists who used the services of accommodation establishments stayed in the accommodation establishments of Tallinn. The next most popular destinations were Pärnu and Tartu cities, where respectively 8% and 6% of the foreign tourists using the services of accommodation establishments stayed.

A third of the clients of accommodation establishments were domestic tourists. In September 2015, 77,800 domestic tourists stayed in accommodation establishments, which was 1% more than in September 2014. 55% of the domestic tourists were on a holiday trip and 32% were on a business trip. 32% of the domestic tourists stayed in the accommodation establishments of Harju county, 12% in Tartu county and 11% in Pärnu county. Compared to September 2014, the number of domestic tourists staying in the accommodation establishments of Harju and Pärnu counties decreased (1% and 4%, respectively), while the relevant indicator for Tartu county increased 14%.

In September, 1,106 accommodation establishments offered services for tourists. 19,900 rooms and 46,000 beds were available for tourists. 44% of the rooms and 32% of the beds were occupied. The average cost of a guest night was 36 euros and remained at the previous year’s level. The average cost of a guest night was higher than the Estonian average in Harju county where it cost 43 euros. The average cost of a guest night was 28 euros in Pärnu county and 30 euros in Tartu county.
