Rytas Vilnius and Neptūnas Klaipėda withdraw from VTB United League

Lietuvos Rytas Vinius and Neptūnas Klaipėda announced on Friday that they will not take part next season in the VTB United League reported BNS.

The announcement came from the managements of the Lithuanian clubs and from the Lithuanian Basketball league (LBL). Lithuanian Basketball League President, Remigijus Milašius, said that the decision of  Rytas Vilnius came as as result to Vilnius Municipality Council’s position that the club would risk losing Vilnius’s municipal support if the club will play in the Russian league.

Neptūnas Klaipėda reasoned that the club would not be capable of playing alone in three leagues: Lithuanian league, Euroleague where they will participate for the first time and VTB.
