Latvian Foreign Ministry summoned Russia’s ambassador in Riga
Ministry of Foreign Affairs summoned Russia’s ambassador in Riga, Alexander Veshnyakov in connection with the statements of the Vice Chairman of the State Duma of the Russian Federation Vladimir Zhirinovsky, announced the Foreign Minister of Latvia Edgars Rinkevics in his account to Twitter account yesterday, reported RIA Novosti.
The Minister informed that he intends to ask the Ambassador detailed explanations regarding the statements of Zhirinovsky in an interview to “Russia 24” TV channel.
Zhirinovsky, who is using as the Vice-Speaker of the Russian State Duma and the leader of the Liberal Democratic Party in an interview earlier, predicted the destruction and occupation of Poland and the Baltic countries.
Latvia is not a single state to summon the Russian ambassador.
Earlier this week, on Wednesday, the Polish Foreign Ministry summoned the Russian ambassador in Warsaw Alexander Alexeyev for conversation and explanation to Zhirinivsky’s statements.
The press-secretary of the Russian Embassy in Poland, Valeria Perzhinskaya, said that Zhirinovsky, as a leader of the Liberal Democratic Party, which is a part of the opposition in Russia, and it is unclear why diplomats should comment to his statements since he is not one of the decision makers.
Perzhinskaya also blamed Polish Parliament and said that not only the Polish coalition, but also the opposition are “actively participating in anti-Russian campaign, which is pumping by the Polish media”, and blamed Poland in “Russofobia”.
