A meeting of the foreign ministers of Russia, Germany and Poland in St. Petersburg to discuss the Ukraine crisis ended without results on Tuesday.
The conservative daily Rzeczpospolita criticises the representatives of the EU states for their naive approach to the conflict:
Unfortunately, in Europe the conviction that Russia may still morph into a gentle lamb is so strong that the reality is utterly ignored. Neither Moscow’s aggressive behaviour in Ukraine nor the threats of the Kremlin have shaken this belief.
… It is lamentable that even Poland’s chief diplomatic representative is victim of this delusion.
… Our policy vis-à-vis Russia must not be based on a constant veering between two extremes. You can’t first demand tough sanctions and then shrink from even soft measures like the diplomatic isolation of the Kremlin.
