Strasbourg, January 14, — Today the President of Republic of Lithuania Dalia Grybauskaitė will present the results of Lithuania’s EU Presidency to Euro-parliamentarians of all the 28 member states who were directly elected by European citizens as their representatives.
It is an official closing event of the rotating six-month Presidency of the Council of the European Union. Under the long-standing European tradition, leaders of presiding countries at the beginning of the term present to the European Parliament the main directions and later, on closing, the performance results of their presidencies. Key priorities of the Lithuanian EU Presidency were presented by Dalia Grybauskaitė in Strasbourg on 4 July last year.
From 1 January, the helm of the EU Council was taken over by Greece.
President Dalia Grybauskaitė will also meet with the European Parliament President Martin Schulz to review the tasks that Greece needs to continue as well as discuss further collaborative efforts to boost the EU’s economic growth, reduce unemployment and ensure competitiveness.
