Lithuanian basketball club Žalgiris Kaunas signed American NBA player Maalik Wayns

The famous Lithuanian basketball club Žalgiris Kaunas continued its preparation for the next season and getting stronger with signing an American NBA player Maalik Wayns

The goals of the club from Kaunas is at least Top 16 stage in Euroleague and the all titles in Lithuania. After Šarūnas Jasikevičius retired and became a coach’s assistant, Žalgiris searched for a foreign player that will lead the club. As a result, Maalik Wayns who couldn’t find a club in NBA signed for one season contract in Žalgiris.

 

Who is Maalik Wayns?

Maalik Benjamin Wayns is a 23-year-old. He was born on May 2, 1991 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. During the high school, he played for Roman Catholic High School in Pennsylvania. There, Waynes was announced two-time MVP in the Philadelphia Catholic League and also was included in the first team all-city and all-state of Pennsylvania.

During his college years, once played for Villanova University. Already in his first year, He was named in All-Rookie Team of the East.

In his professional career, Waynes after going undrafted in the 2012 NBA draft, joined to the Orlando Magic for the Orlando Summer League. Later, he joined to the Golden State Warriors for the Las Vegas Summer League. Finally, Waynes signed in Philadelphia 76ers. Later, in the 2012-2013 season he was waived by the 76ers but was re-signed again for a 10-day contract a little bit later and was not re-signed again when his contract expired.

Waynes’ next stop at this season was Rio Grande Valley Vipers of the NBA D-League. There, he also did not stay for a long time. Once returned to the NBA and signed for a 10-day contract with the Los Angeles Clippers. After his contract was expired, he was resigning for more 10 days. Finally, Clippers signed him for the rest of the season.

At the beginning of the year, he was waived by the Clippers. But at the end, Clippers signed him to a 10-day contract and after the period Clippers released him. Wines was re-acquired by the Rio Grande Valley Vipers until the end of the season.

On July 30, 2014, he signed a one-year deal with the Lithuanian team Žalgiris Kaunas, where he will hope to be an important part of the club.
