Lithuania: Vilnius to begin countdown to centennial celebration

The countdown to the centennial celebration of the declaration of Lithuania’s independence will be opened up on 16 February by the Trumpeter of Independence performing our so-called second national anthem “Lietuva brangi“ out of the window of the Palace of the Grand Dukes of Lithuania.

Starting every evening at 18:16, the ceremony will continue until the actual celebration on 16 February next year.

The musical arrangement was created by one of the most famous Lithuanian composers Juozas Naujalis, and the author of the lyrics is the renowned Lithuanian poet Jonas Mačiulis-Maironis. The composition will be played by a trumpeter Mindaugas Lapė and his students.

Project initiators: Vilnius City Municipality, “Go Vilnius”, Palace of the Grand Dukes of Lithuania.
