Well-known people of Lithuania express their appreciation for the possibility of being part of the EU
Lithuania’s public figures join the Thank you campaign launched under the Centennial Celebration Programme to express their gratitude to their fellow countrymen for having taken the firm resolution to become full-fledged members of the European Union.
The cheerful video “Thank you, Europa” features journalist Edmundas Jakilaitis thanking Lithuania for their resolute “Yes” to EU membership in the 2003 referendum.
Famous Lithuanian singer Monika Linkytė, having represented Lithuania in the Eurovision Song Contest together with Vaidas Baumila two years ago, expresses gratitude for the opportunities that have opened up for the country since its accession to the EU.
According to the young talent, this has also opened up the road for her to get to the reputable BIMM (British and Irish Modern Music Institute) and to share the invaluable experience gained there with her fans and friends when back in Lithuania.
Head of the European Commission Representation in Lithuania Arnoldas Pranckevičius thanks the people for their support and determination and notes that Lithuanians made it clear that they wanted to be part of the European family already back then when they stood hand in hand in the Baltic Way.
Foreign Minister Linas Linkevičius thanks his fellow countrymen for this important decision, as well as the negotiators – Petras Auštrevičius and Vygaudas Ušackas – for having borne the heavy load of work while heading towards the EU membership.
The Centennial campaign “Thank you” began on 29 March to mark the anniversary of Lithuania’s accession to NATO. It invites the people of Lithuania to express their gratitude to all those who have contributed to Lithuania’s success.
