Lithuanian Foreign Ministry intends to close three Lithuanian embassies in Central and Western Europe.
The countries where the embassies will be closed are Portugal, Bulgaria and Slovenia. This suggestion was submitted to the Parliamentary Committee on Foreign Affairs by the Lithuanian Foreign Minister Linas Linkevičius, reported Lithuanian newspaper “Lietuvos Žinios”.
According to the article, in some non-official discussions was spoken about the possibility to open new embassies in distant countries. It is important to open the embassies spatially in the countries where the number of Lithuanian emigrants is high noticed the article. Presumably the countries where the new embassies will be opened are South Africa and Australia, as well as the Consul resident in Los Angeles.
