Latvia: Woman in Art – Fourth Art Night in Daugavpils
Art Night at Daugavpils Mark Rothko Art Centre

By established tradition, Daugavpils Mark Rothko Art Centre invites the public to come into Daugavpils Fortress in early June.

Visitors are encouraged to let themselves be shrouded in darkness and get lost in the vast programme of the Art Night to experience an array of intense impressions and emotions.

The programme:
  • 10 p.m. – 2 a.m. – Foam and laser pool with Dj SairaM (Courtyard of the Rothko Centre)
  • 10 p.m. – 2 a.m. – MISTRESS BAR (Powder magazine)
  • 10 p.m. – 2 a.m. – Painters’ bridge with art group V.I.V.A. (Nikolai Bridge)
  • 10 p.m. – 2 a.m. – Photo project LV21 (Façade of the building on 1 Imperator Street)
  • 10 p.m. – 2 a.m. – Live broadcast from Radio NABA remote studio (2nd floor of the Rothko Centre)
  • 10 p.m. – 1 a.m. – Photo Exhibition David Holmert “Across the Baltic Sea: 1944-1945” (2nd floor vestibule of the Rothko Centre)
  • 10 p.m. – 11 p.m. – Ghosting with the Ghost Horse: patterns of light (Environmental object “Ghost of the Fortress”)
  • 10 p.m. – 11 p.m. – Presentation of the Latvian Centre for Contemporary Ceramics (8 Hospitāļa Street)
  • 10 p.m. – 11 a.m. – Presentation of Daugavpils Fortress Tourist Information Centre (5 Nikolaja Street)
  • 10 p.m. – 00 a.m. – Workshops of the 7th International Latgale Graphic Art Symposium (White tent by the Rothko Centre)
  • 10 p.m. – 00 a.m. – Mobile art workshop with artist Inguna Levša (Van of the Rothko Centre)
  • 10 p.m. – 00 a.m. – SWEDISH FILM NIGHT: A SERIOUS GAME (Latvian Centre for Contemporary Ceramics, 8 Hospitāļa Street, in collaboration with Swedish Embassy in Latvia)

Directed by Pernilla August. Starring Michael Nyqvist, Sverrir Gudnason, Karin Franz Körlof. About the film: story of a passionate and scorching Swedish love affair – adaptation of Hjalmar Söderberg’s novel “The Serious Game” from 1912. The great Swedish love story. Journalist Arvid Stjärnblom and artist’s daughter Lydia Stille dream of a great, pure and insatiable love. But fulfilling their dream demands much greater sacrifices than they could ever have imagined. A film about choices that we are confronted with, or not, in the course of our lives. About the choices we make and their consequences.

10 p.m. – 00 a.m. – SWEDISH FILM NIGHT: AUTUMN SONATA (Conference room of the Rothko Centre, side entrance, in collaboration with Swedish Embassy in Latvia)

Directed by Ingmar Bergman. Starring Ingrid Bergman, Liv Ullmann, Gunnar Björnstrand, Erland Josephson. About the film: Ingrid Bergman, a Swedish-born actress who became a major Hollywood star, and Ingmar Bergman, one of the most widely recognised directors both in Sweden and globally, worked together for the first and only time in this deeply personal drama of a troubled mother-daughter relationship.

  • 11 p.m. – 00 a.m. – Daugavpils Music Secondary School Virtuosos (Nikolai Bridge)
  • 10.30 p.m. – 11 p.m. – Fashion Show from Daugavpils Art Secondary School “Saules” (Nikolai Bridge)
  • 00.30 a.m. – 1 a.m. – Jane Eyre. Daugavpils Theatre. Performance (Courtyard of the Rothko Centre)

During Art Night, from 10 p.m. until 1 a.m. Daugavpils Mark Rothko Art Centre will be available at special DISCOUNT PRICES: all temporary exhibitions – 1.50 EUR, permanent exhibition “Mark Rothko. Life and Art” with Mark Rothko’s originals – 3 EUR. Full ticket for the entire Rothko Centre – 4.50 EUR.

 

Prelude to the Art Night programme on 8 June:

  • 3 p.m. “Women in Latvian Art”. Exhibition opening at Latgale Central Library (free of charge); Presentation of Aleksandra Šļahova’s exhibition catalogue; Presentation of the 6th International Latgale Graphic Art Symposium Catalogue;
  • 4 p.m. Opening of the 7th International Latgale Graphic Art Symposium Exhibition on the ground floor of Latgale Central Library (free of charge);
  • 5 p.m. “Ventspils: a family- and recreation-friendly city”. Exhibition opening at the conference sector of the Rothko Centre (free of charge);
  • 5.30 p.m. Film “Mary’s Journey” at the Rothko Centre’s conference room (free of charge).
