Fed Cup Europe/Africa in Tallinn: Estonia to face Armenia & Namibia

An international cast of female tennis pros is in Tallinn for the three-day Fed Cup Europe/Africa Zone Group III tournament, where Estonia is to face Armenian and Namibian teams

Teams from Cyprus, Denmark, Greece, Iceland, Ireland, Madagascar, Malta, Moldova and Norway are all taking part in the event, which begins February 5, reported ERR

The teams have been divided into four groups, with the winners of each carrying on in playoffs to determine which two will be promoted to Group II.

The home team will be led by Kaia Kanepi (WTA 27), with Anett Kontaveit (WTA 219), Eva Paalma (WTA 1011) and Tatjana Vorobjova (no ranking) also taking part. Maret Ani is the team captain, although she will act as coach and not actually play.

Estonia’s best ever performance in the world’s leading women’s team tennis tournament came in 2010, when Estonia narrowly lost to Belgium in the playoff for advancing to the first tier of the competition.
