EURO 2016 qualifications: Team Lietuva lost to Slovenia


After a great opening of the EURO 2016 qualification campaign with two victories against San Marino and Estonia, Lithuania lost. In the third match in Group E Lithuanian national football team faced Slovenia in Vilnius and lost 2-0.

The match between Lithuania and Slovenia took place in Lietuvos futbolo federacijos (LFF). Already in the 17th minute the Lithuanian crowd woke up after a goal by Lithuania but the Greek referee canceled it due to an offside.

Unexpected substitution was done in Lithuania at the 30th minute after one of the Lithuania stars, Mindaugas Panka was injured. He was replaced by Gedeminas Vičius. Lithuanian defense failed to protect the goal and in the 33rd minute the Slovenian Milivoje Novakovič managed to find the Lithuanian goal. Four minutes later, Novakovič doubled the score with another goal and the teams went to the halftime when the scoreboard shows 2-0 for the guests.

During the second half Lithuanian football players tried to surprise the Slovenian goalkeeper by long range shots, but it was not a serious threat to the Slovenian goal. Meanwhile, Lithuanian goalkeeper Giedrius Arlauskis repeatedly saved team Lithuania from another goal.

For Slovenia it was second Victory after they managed to win the Swiss team with the same result and lost to Estonia in previous month 1-0. Lithuania lost its second place in Slovenia due to goal difference statistics, which is better to Slovenian team.

The next match will be away match against Switzerland in November 15th. There, in case that Lithuania hopes to qualify to Euro 2016 in France, they will be have to get a good result. Which is not less than a victory.
