Berankis qualified to Australian Open main draw

Ričardas Berankis qualified today, (January 11th) to the first round of the Australian open after winning the third and final round in the qualifications.

Berankis, who is the best Lithuanian tennis player, and taking the 130th place in the world, was ranked 14th in the qualifications for the Australian Open Grand Slam. After he passed the first two rounds, the Lithuanian played against Andrej Martin, the 24-year old Slovakian tennis player. Martin, who is taking the 147th place in ATP race could not stop the Lithuanian. Berankis celebrated a straight set victory 6-3,6-1 and the ticket to the main draw of the first Grand Slam to the 2014 season after one hour and one minute of playing.

By his victory, Berankis will get 35 ATP ranking points and 30,000 Australian dollars. The Lithuanian will play his first round in the next Monday when he will play against the 25-year Ukrainian Alexander Dolgopolov who is ranked at the 55th place in the world.
