About 50,000 Ukrainian citizens arrive in Belarus in 2014
MINSK, BelTA/BR – About 50,000 Ukrainian citizens arrived in Belarus in 2014, head of the citizenship and migration department of the Interior Ministry of Belarus Alexei Begun told a press conference dedicated to the efforts to counteract human trafficking, illegal migration, child pornography and prostitution on 6 February, BelTA has learned.
“Last year law enforcement bodies found out that about 50,000 Ukrainian citizens arrived in Belarus. Part of them obtained corresponding permissions for temporary residence, part of them were given permissions for permanent residence. Besides, Belarus provided additional protection to more than 600 Ukrainians arriving in Belarus from the regions engulfed in the armed conflict,” Alexei Begun said.
The head of the department remarked that the inflow of refugees from Ukraine does not go down. In January 2015 about 2,500 Ukrainians from the regions hit by the armed conflict asked the authorized bodies of Belarus to regulate their legal status on the territory of the republic.
“All the three Belarusians centers of temporary residence for refugees and other people requesting this status operate at full capacity. They mostly provide accommodation to the citizens of Ukraine,” he added.
