Basketball: For the second time in a row Lithuania beats Georgia


Lithuanian National male basketball team continues its preparation to the Mondubasket

After a convincing victory 82-51 over Georgia in panavežys, this time the teams meet again in Vilnius. The game, again, was one-sided. Lithuania won the match without any difficulties 81-54. The most important event happened in the fourth minute of the match when Mantas Kilneitis was injured in his head and moved to the hospital.

Vilnius, exhibition match, “Siemens arena”, take two: Lithuania versus Georgia. It was almost the complete copy of the first match between the two squads. This time, Lithuania and Georgia played a close game until the third quarter where Lithuania managed to escape forward and to secure the third victory in a row.

During the first quarter, at the fourth minute Mantas Kilneitis and Zaza Bachulija fought for a ball and the Lithuanian got an elbow to his head. As a result, he got a 5 cm slash and was taken to the hospital. Kilneitis managed to return to the court until the end of the match and it seems that he is not seriously injured. Renaldas Seibutis and Mindaugas Kuzminskas led the team to the victory in the first quarter 18-14.

The close battle continued in the second quarter as well. Finally Lithuanian basketball players managed to win the quarter 15-12 and to send the teams to the half time when the scoreboard shows 33-26.

The third quarter was the most intense one. The Lithuanian team with the brothers Lavrinovič, Šarūnas Vasiliauskas and Martynas Pocius led the team to 29-15 in the third quarter. The Georgian team could not find the way to stop the offensive wave of the Lithuanians. At the end, the total score after 30 minutes was 62-41 to the Lithuania’s team.

And again, as in the previous match, the final quarter was garbage time. There, Lithuania also managed to win the final quarter with 19 points to the Georgian basket. Georgia scored 13. The final score after the full time was 81-54 to the home team that so far, looks strong and feels comfortable and ready for the World Cup.

Scored for Lithuania: Darijuš Lavrinovič 17, Donatas Motejūsnas scored 12 points and grabbed 12 rebounds. Deivydas Gaulius and Šarūnas Vasiliauskas scored 9 points each, Renaldas Seibutis 7, Martynas Pocius, Kšištof Lavrinovič and Artūras Gudaitis scored 6 points each, Adas Juškevičius 5 , Mindaugas Kuzminskas and Antanas Kavaliauskas scored two points each. Mantas Kilneitis played four minutes and as it was noted above was injured and did not score.

Scored for Georgia: Zaza Pachulija 18 points and 14 rebounds, Beka Burdzanadze and Tornike Shengelija 7 points each, Gregorij Cincadze 6, Viktor Sanikidze and Beshikas Lezava 5 points each, Otar Pchakadze and Levan Pacacija scored three points each for Georgia.

Now, Lithuanian team will fly to Finland in order to face in Helsinki the local squad. After the match that will held on August 4, Lithuania will come back and will play against Ukraine in Klaipėda.
