The Central Electoral Commission ( CEC ) of Lithuania, during last Friday, registered more five political candidates for the presidential elections. Therefore, now for the presidency of Lithuania will claim seven candidates
The candidates to the post are the acting president Dalia Grybauskaitė, a Social Democrat Zigmantas Balcytis, the mayor of Vilnius Arturas Žuokas, representative of the Lithuanian Union of farmers and greens in Lithuania, mayor of Ignalina Bronis Rope, and the parliamentarian Naglis Puteykis, the Labor Party leader Arturas Paulauskas and the Pole’s leader in Lithuania Waldemar Tomaszewski.
According to the Lithuanian law, in order to take part in the presidential elections, the candidate has to submit at least 20 thousand signatures.
CEC on Friday refused to register as a candidate the head of the Green Party of Lithuania Linas Balsys. Balsys submitted to CEC 20,411 signatures. But the handwriting experts who analyzed the signatures, canceled nearly 700 of them. Balsys was not the only one who failed to get into the elections. To collect the required number of signatures also failed the entrepreneur Vladas Lašas, the signatory of the Act of Independence of Lithuania Rolandas Paulauskas, the driver Jonas Lašinis and the chairman of the Democratic Party of Labor and Unity Kristina Brazauskenė.
The elections to the chair of President of Lithuanian Republic will take place at May 11th.
