Ukrainian Foreign Minister and the UN Secretary-General discussed the possibility of a peacekeeping mission in the country’s eastern region

According to remarks made by Ban Ki-moon, he “commended the leadership displayed by President Poroshenko in efforts to find a peaceful resolution to the ongoing conflict in eastern Ukraine.”

At the same time, the UN Secretary-General also voiced his concern at the still dangerous situation on the ground Ban Ki-moon also expressed hope that the cease-fire agreed to on February 12 in Minsk would firmly take hold across the region.

Concerning the possibility of a peacekeeping mission in eastern Ukraine, the Secretary-General informed the Foreign Minister of Ukraine that the United Nations would stand guided by any decision the Security Council would make on this issue.

The Secretary-General and Foreign Minister of Ukraine Klimkin agreed to continue their discussion on matters of mutual concern.
