During the month of January 2012, the UN Protocol and Liaison Service at UN Headquarters in New York City, announced that Belarusian Ambassador Andrei Dapkiunas, had presented his credentials to UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon.

Ambassador Dapkiunas, who speaks Belarusian, English, French, Polish, and Russian, holds a Higher Education Diploma in languages (English and French) from the Minsk State Institute for Foreign Languages.
According to the UN Protocol and Liaison Service, Ambassador Dapkiunas served previously as the Permanent Representative of Belarus to the United Nations from 2004 to 2011, during which time he also served as President of the Executive Board of the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) in 2006 and Vice-President of the Economic and Social Council (2008).Most recently, he worked in Minsk as Director of Humanitarian Cooperation and Human Rights of the Belarusian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Before his first appointment to the United Nations as Ambassador, Mr. Dapkiunas served in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs as Director of the Americas Department (1997-2004), Head of the Office for the United States and Canada (1995-1997), and as Assistant to the Minister (1994-1995). In addition, he was also Second Secretary at the Permanent Mission of Belarus to the United Nations (1992-1994) and Second Secretary of the Chernobyl International Cooperation Department in the Belarusian Ministry of Foreign Affairs (1992). From 1985 to 1988, he was a lecturer in the Interpretation Department of the Minsk State Institute for Foreign Languages. Ambassador Dapkiunas, who was born in Minsk, holds a doctorate in Political Science from Belarusian State University.
