German fighters in the sky of the Baltic States

On 2 January four German fighters landed at the Lithuanian air-force base in Siauliai. They will start the mission of protecting the air space of the Baltic States

F-4 Phantom

The German Air-Force will replace the Danish completing their mission, which lasted for a year. Germany sent four fighters F-4 Phantom for this mission.

The NATO fighters are protecting the air space of the Baltic States since 2004, when the Baltic States joined the North-Atlantic Alliance. It has been agreed last year that NATO will continue protecting the air space of Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia until the year of 2014.
