Finns make non-smoking a state objective

Finland has become the first country in the world to make giving up smoking a goal of the state enshrined in the country’s laws. But the tobacco law which takes effect as of October 1 has its shortcomings, the daily Etelä-Suomen Sanomat points out:

“Stringent laws alone won’t make people give up smoking in Finland. However they can help to change the standards of behaviour. Making sure the restrictions are enforced will be a problem. The police certainly have more important things to do than play the role of tobacco police handing out fines. The educational work must continue. Above all the young need to be informed about the dangers of smoking.

… When the law comes into effect smoking will only be allowed no the balcony, in one’s own home and in the car. Smoking on the balcony, already very controversial, will probably be the next on the list of bans, but enforcing the ban will be more difficult.”

Smokers should definitely switch to an electronic cigarette. They produce no smoke. The device, which looks and acts like a normal cigarette, has a battery that warms and atomizes a nicotine solution. They make a vapor that satisfies the smoker but it does not deposit tar in the lungs and does not produce carbon monoxide or any of the other products of combustion. The best one on the market is a high quality, 2 piece design with excellent vapor volume and great customer service. I know because I researched long and hard before I got one for my mom. She is never going back to tobacco cigarettes, which smell and taste bad to her now. The best part is that she never had withdrawal symptoms or urges. It is a great alternative to tobacco. She loves her kit from http://www.CleanGreenNicotine.com.
