Countdown to the World’s First Intercontinental Crossing by Jet-wing

Specialized Mobile Provider Webtel.mobi and its Challenger, Swiss pilot Yves Rossy, are in the final stages of preparation for this spectacular global event.

The Challenger will attempt to become the first man to make an intercontinental crossing – from Morocco in Africa to southern Spain – by jet-wing. The Challenge is being done to highlight Webtel.mobi as a challenger in the global telecommunications market with its innovative mobile phone service, which links the world in a low-cost way.

Webtel.mobi CEO Stuart Sterzel said the Challenge would push to the limit human technology and innovation and he saluted the professionalism and courage of the Challenger in undertaking the flight.

“Yves shares our philosophy that nothing in this world is achieved without personal dedication and we are confident he will succeed.”

Challenger Yves Rossy said he was looking forward to making the flight: “It is going to be historic, No-one has ever done this before. With all the work that the Webtel.mobi team and I have done, we will do this!”

Preparations over the weekend in Tangier, Morocco and Atlantera. outside Tarifa on the Spanish coast, saw Challenger Yves Rossy checking landing zones, approach routes and weather conditions. The Webtel.mobi Intercontinental Challenge team is being supplied with weather updates from Meteo France and predictions are for good weather for the Challenge Day on Wednesday.

The Challenger will be followed by an air fleet of helicopters and aircraft, which will film the event and provide free live television footage via satellite to any broadcasters worldwide. A free worldwide live internet broadcast (webcast) will also be screened on Webtel.mobi’s Challenge website.

A huge contingent of TV Outside Broadcast personnel has set up its equipment (including two satellite news gathering vehicles and an Outside Broadcast truck, close to the arrival point. Satellite uplinks have been tested thoroughly.

Scheduled for November 25 2009 – with a Rehearsal on 24 November 2009 – the event is one of the largest and most unique to be held on the world stage for many years. The global webcast and broadcast also seem set to make it one of the most viewed events in recent time.
